What We Do

How We Work

Every job starts with a visit. We look at the tree with you, check its health and structure and what it would hit if it came down, then tell you plainly what it needs. If a trim will do, we'll say so rather than take the tree down.

We also check the wires. If branches are close to the service wire that runs from the pole to your house, PG&E can switch your power off for a short time, at no charge, while the work is done. Trees near the lines running between the poles are PG&E's to trim, so we'll point you to them for those. A tree by the road may be a City street tree, which has its own rules (see below).

You get a free estimate with the price explained before any work starts, and nothing happens until you say yes. When the work is finished, we haul away the wood and branches and clean up the yard.

The Trees and Conditions We Work With in Madera

Madera's trees deal with long, hot summers and rainy winters. The average high is 90°F or more from early June to late September, and in that heat a big tree can drop a heavy limb on a calm afternoon. UC's garden advisers call this summer branch drop. It's best known in oaks and also affects elm, ash and eucalyptus.

Most of the rain falls between November and March. Across parts of Madera County the soil is the San Joaquin series, which sits on a cemented hardpan a few feet down that holds back roots and water. When the soil above it is soaked, a tree with a lean or weak roots can go over in a winter storm. That's why we look at the ground around a tree as well as the branches.

Licensed and Insured in Madera

We're licensed and insured. You can check any California contractor's license with the Contractors State License Board at cslb.ca.gov.

We work across the City of Madera, from the streets around Courthouse Park out to Madera Acres just north of the city and Parkwood just south of it, and in the Madera Ranchos. We also take calls in Chowchilla, 16 miles northwest up Highway 99, and in Kerman, over the county line in Fresno County.

In the City of Madera, property owners are responsible for the street trees in front of their property. Removing one generally means replacing it with a City-approved species, and the City asks owners to contact Parks and Community Services on (559) 661-5495 for approval.
